DOWN UNDER: GAC opened a new Australian port office.

Gulf Agency Company (GAC), the provider of shipping, logistics and marine solutions, has opened its latest port office in Australia to capitalise on growing demand for shipping services in the Asia Pacific region.

The decision further expands GAC's coverage of strategic points along Australia's vast coastline.

The company, which established its Australian division in December 2007, now operates 14 port offices throughout the country, with its latest facility in Darwin joining a domestic network that includes Adelaide, Brisbane, Melbourne, Newcastle and Townsville.

In addition, it recently signed an agency deal covering Australian and New Zealand ports with the Netherlands-based company Vroon, which makes approximately 200 calls to the country's ports every year.

"This market is very important and GAC is proud to be associated with a company like Vroon. We look forward to a long and mutually rewarding relationship over the years ahead," announced Phil Coolican, managing director, GAC Australia.

In addition to GAC's head office in Sydney, the company's branch offices now include Adelaide, Brisbane, Cairns, Dampier, Darwin, Fremantle, Gladstone, Mackay, Melbourne, Newcastle, Port Hedland, Port Kembla and Townsville.

"To further strengthen our operational base, we have also hired additional staff in Adelaide, Dampier, Fremantle and Port Hedland, to handle the increase in business since GAC Australia opened for business last year," Coolican added.
