UAE stands out in global e-readiness rankings

The United Arab Emirates is positioned as one of the leaders in the MENA region for e-readiness rankings, according to a new report by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).

Leading the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region is Israel that has a global rank of 24 out of 70. The UAE comes second with a ranking of 35, well above other countries in the region including Saudi Arabia, ranked at 46, Jordan at 53, Egypt at 57, Algeria at 67 and Iran at 70.

The world's largest managed IT cluster, Dubai Internet City, was credited as one of the key drivers in UAE's economic transformation.

The EIU report states that Dubai's attempts to build capabilities as a world-class enabler of digital commerce has been achieved primarily through the efforts of TECOM Investments in creating Dubai Internet City.

"These results validate the high quality of information and communications technology (ICT) infrastructure offered at the IT cluster," said Malek Sultan Al Malek, executive director, Dubai Internet City.

"By awarding top honours to the UAE, the report - regarded as one of the world's most comprehensive and authoritative international assessments - establishes the country as the preferred location for companies looking to invest in the region," he added.

The UAE scored well (7.64 points out of 10) with respect to its readiness to promote and facilitate business, and was awarded 6.20 points for its balanced government policy and vision to manage and allocate resources needed for network operations.
