The United Arab Emirates has set up a National Health Council to improve the standard of healthcare in the Gulf state, the official news agency WAM reported on Wednesday.

Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al-Maktoum, also UAE vice president and prime minister, has signed a decree to set up the council, which will be chaired by UAE Health Minister Humaid Mohammed Al-Qatami, WAM said.

The council's board will comprise two representatives from the Ministry of Health, the Abu Dhabi Health Authority, Dubai Health Authority and Dubai Healthcare City, it said.

The council will coordinate between federal and local healthcare establishments and authorities, as well as the private sector to improve the standards of healthcare delivery services, WAM said.

The council will also work with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to draw up educational policies for health sciences and medicine inside the UAE and abroad, it added.
