Dubai hotel revenues up 22% in Q1

Dubai hotel revenues rose 22 percent to 4.3 billion dirhams ($1.2 billion) in the first three months of 2008, compared to the same period last year, the Department of Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM) said on Wednesday.
The number of hotel and hotel apartment guests rose to 1.9 million in the first quarter this year compared to 1.8 million in 2007, an increase of 7 percent, DTCM said in a statement.
The department said Dubai was experiencing the fastest guest increase percentage in the world.
The number of guest nights increased 10 percent to 6.07 million from 5.51 million, it said.
Hotels registered an 8.2 percent increase in the number of guest nights while the number of guest nights at hotel apartments grew 17 percent, it said.
The average number of operating hotel and hotel apartments rose 9 percent to 475 from 437, while the number of hotel rooms increased 12 percent to 31,450 and the total for hotel apartments stood at 12,046, a 20 percent jump on the previous year, it said.
