UAE launches national health council

Dubai ruler Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, also UAE vice president and prime minister, has established a National Health Council, under the chairmanship of the Health Minister, Humaid Mohammed Obaid Al Qattami.

The council will have as its members two representatives from each of the following institutions - the Ministry of Health (MoH), the Abu Dhabi health authority (ADHA), Dubai health authority (DHA), Dubai Health Care City (DHCC), the medical services sectors of the Interior Ministry and the Armed Forces as well as two representatives from the private health sectors, according to state news agency WAM.

The two representatives are to be selected by the health minister.

The new council will coordinate actions between federal and local healthcare delivery establishments and authorities, as well as the private healthcare delivery sector to ensure integration of work and improve the standards of healthcare delivery services in the country, said the news agency.

It will also coordinate efforts with the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research to draw educational policies for the studying of health sciences and medicine inside the UAE and abroad.

The two bodies will work together to boost scientific research and studies, and assist health programmes, the agency reported.
