Over 10,000 gamers took part in a six-week long Middle East championship of Gran Turismo 5: Prologue – with the winner walking away with a number of prizes.
Preliminary rounds took place in nine regional cities across the Middle East in June and July 2008, with the finalists invited to Dubai for the Grand Final. Organised by PlayStation, in association with Nissan Middle East, the Grand Final took place in Dubai Festival City last weekend.
Ahmad El Azmi from Kuwait saw off nine other finalists to win a trip to Japan for two, with the chance to test drive the real Nissan GT-R. Azmi also picked up a GT Racing Pod, a 40” W Bravia LCD TV, a PlayStation 3 console and a copy of the game for his efforts.
“Over the past six weeks we have witnessed some fantastic racing at the nine preliminary events across our inaugural Gran Turismo 5: Prologue Middle East Challenge 2008,” said Tim Stokes, sales & marketing director, PlayStation division, Sony Gulf.
“We would like to congratulate the winner for his victory in the face of some very stiff competition from across the region. The excitement generated over the past six weeks and again at the Grand Final is testament to Gran Turismo’s enduring popularity and the dynamic partnership between PlayStation and Nissan to deliver such a fantastic event,” he added.
