It is set to be a big night for Gulf cinemas this weekend with the release of the latest Batman film, The Dark Knight, with many anticipating the huge interest seen in the US and UK will continue in the UAE.
The film, which grossed a record $158.4 million in its opening weekend in the US, stars Christian Bale as Batman and the late Heath Ledger as his arch rival The Joker.
A spokesperson from CineStar Cinemas in the UAE said that customer response in the UAE has been “extremely positive”.
“We’ve had very good box office response. Pre-sales have definitely surpassed The Incredible Hulk and Ironman," she said.
The film, which is released on Thursday, looks set to be this summer’s big blockbuster and could very well be the biggest hit of the year, with only the forthcoming Bond movie likely to compete for the number one spot, she said.
Summer is a big season for Gulf cinemas as soaring temperatures keep people indoors.
Meanwhile, lead actor Christian Bale was questioned by British police on Tuesday over allegations of assault by his mother and sister. He was later released without charge.
