The general manager of a company in Dubai has been charged with endangering the lives of workers, police revealed on Wednesday.
Dubai Police are investigating the manager, an Arab, over housing workers at a building under construction where many gas cylinders and flammable materials were stored.
Deputy Dubai Police Chief Major General Khamis Mattar Al Mazinah said he had been interrogated, adding that he was charged with endangering the lives of workers.
"The file of the case has been referred to the public prosecution to further investigate the case," he said.
He revealed that the site was inappropriate for accommodation, as many gas cylinders, woods and inflammable materials were found stored at the site, posing a high risk on the lives of workers in case of fire.
Al Mazinah said the Dubai police's human rights department inspects labour accommodations and construction sites as part of its obligation to avoid using them as shelters for workers.
He warned that the department takes measures against erring companies in line with the UAE laws.
