US firm Johnson Controls has signed a deal to supply 18 York-branded YK – K7 water-cooled centrifugal chillers to the Bahrain Bay project in the Kingdom of Bahrain.

The order was placed by Unicorp International Contracting, EPC contractor for the US$2.5 billion Bahrain Bay project. “The selection of YORK chillers came about after weeks of detailed and rigorous technical evaluation and comparison among the manufacturers of such type of chillers,” said Amin Ashkar, Unicorp project director.

A spokesperson for Johnson said that the order was the beginning of a new trend of using seawater for large district cooling plants in the Middle East.
