HP has announced an update to its Project and Portfolio Management Center (PPM) software, which it claims will boost integration with its Business Technology Optimisation (BTO) portfolio.

BTO products affected by the new 7.5 version of PPM include Service Management Center, Quality Center and HP's Universal Configuration Management Database. PPM is intended to deliver integrated IT management capabilities that span project and portfolio management, application lifecycle management and IT service management.

"CIOs often have difficulty tracking investments to demonstrate business value due to ill-defined checks and balances and unclear results, putting IT organisations in a vulnerable position. HP's powerful BTO portfolio enables CIOs to deliver credibility, competency and contribution, which are the key to demonstrating value to the business," said Mahmoud Mounir, software director for HP Middle East.

The new version of PPM includes a number of enhancements including automated workflows, advanced configuration capabilities, and enhanced versions of products from HP Software Professional Services. The latter is intended to aid customers in selecting the right point to begin implementations and achieve a rapid return on their investment in PPM Center, which is available as either an in-house deployment or on-demand via HP Software as a Service.

In support of PPM, HP noted a key Economist Intelligence Unit survey of 1,125 IT leaders worldwide in which 80% of respondents said improved IT automation of IT functions frees up time and resources for innovation.
