With 60% of the infrastructure work on Jumeirah Village complete, the project is on time for its first handover at the end of the year, reports features editor Shikha Mishra and photographer Valeriano Handumon.
The perpetual buzz on the north of Emirates and west of Al Barsha roads is not just the unending stream of construction vehicles - it's also the 20,000 men on site at the Jumeirah Village project which began construction in 2004, and is now heading towards meeting the project handover commencement deadline by the end of the year.
Building work on the first phase of the 2,202 villas and townhouses continues and 60% of the infrastructure is complete. The number of workers on site is expected to rise to 200,000, as the date for the first villa handover in December approaches.
The Al Khail road cuts through the Jumeirah Village site and divides it into triangular and circular districts. The circle comprises of commercial, residential and retail components and the triangle will be made up of villas surrounded by residential towers.
Most villas in the project will be occupied by October 2009 and the infrastructure work will be completed by the second quarter of 2009. A majority of the plots have been sold to third party developers and the expected completion date of the entire project is in 2013.
Jumeirah Village is being built on 8,110,000m2. The triangle will comprise of 2,430,000m2 and the circle of 5,680,000m2.
"The total built-up area of the project is 13 million m2; with residential space taking up 72% (9.5 million m2); commercial area will be 20% (2.6 million m2) and the remaining 8% (0.6 million m2) will be made up of retail space. The parks in the circle will be spread over 495,000m2 and in the triangle will be 73,000m2," says Marwan Al Naqi, general manager of Jumeirah Village.
