Kuwait's Wataniya Airways, which is yet to start operations, denied on Monday a newspaper report that it was interested in buying a stake in loss-making Kuwait Airways Corp (KAC).
Al-Qabas newspaper said on Sunday the airline was eyeing a significant stake in state-owned KAC, earmarked for privatisation. It did not disclose the source of the report.
"The story... is completely untrue," the firm said in a statement, adding that its current focus was on developing its own business.
The carrier said in May it plans to start operations in January to become the third airline in the Gulf Arab state, and will list its shares on the Kuwait bourse by year end.
The parliament in January approved a long-delayed government plan to sell 40 percent of KAC to the public and 35 percent to a long-term investor within two years. (Reuters)
