Emirati develops 50km/hr solar powered car

An Emirati man is about to unveil the latest version of his eco-friendly invention - a solar powered car that can reach speeds of up to 50km per hour.

After working for many years on the vehicle, Saqar Bin Saif is reportedly at an advanced stage of development, reported news agency WAM.

And the concept car first seen at the 2007 Dubai Motor Show is believed to be able to travel at 50km per hour, according to a report in the Arabic daily newspaper Al Emaarat Al Yaum.

Saif exhibited the first version of his car in Dubai, and ignited the curiosity of many car manufacturers around the world, including BMW who invited him to Germany.

He has received offers from US and Germany car manufacturers for partnership in marketing his invention on a commercial level.

But for the time being, the Emirati is concentrating more on the ways to upgrade his creation by way of developing solar panels which can produce more power.

If Arabian Business wish to be taken seriously, then when a mistake is found in an article they need to put their hand up.

Otherwise readers who do not have any knowledge of the background of the article will remain misinformed. I expected better from the usually quite frank and open Arabian Business.

Fastest solar car on Earth!

I totally agree with Martijn and James comments.

I commend Mr. Saqar Bin Saif for achieving great results working on the car by himself. it's an amazing accomplishment.

But when the media states he's making it the "fastest solar car of Earth", it's actually taking away from the accomplishment.

Solar Car competitions have been around since the late 1980's in many countries around the world. speeds of 100km/h and higher have been reached more than 10 years ago, when I was a young university student racing my modest car in Australia.

My point is: many people have been involved in solar cars in one way or another around the world. anyone who reads this article would feel disappointed in the facts presented.

Many of the solar cars in the "World Solar Challenge" across Australia each year are capable of 130km/hr.

The Arabic Daily Newspaper Al Emaarat Al Yaum should attempt to check on a claim before making it (as so many other papers and publications in this region). This solar car is driving a fraction of the speed of even the first Nuna, Nuna 1. The current Nuna (3) has a top speed of 140 km/hour. That's almost three times as fast compared to the car you describe. I think Mr. Saqar Bin Saif should have a word with the boys of Delft University.

Nuna, a solar powered car made by students from the University of Delft, won the World solar challenge in Australia three times in a row, in 2001 (Nuna 1 or just Nuna), 2003 (Nuna 2) and 2005 (Nuna 3).
