Confusion surrounds visa medical tests

Confusion surrounds the new procedures for mandatory visa medical tests in Dubai, with many companies still sending employees to municipality health centres only to have their certificates rejected by the labour ministry.

From July 1 all medical tests for residence and labour visas must be carried out at facilities run by the health ministry, Dubai Health Authority and Abu Dhabi Health Authority rather than municipality centres.

However, many people are still not aware of the change and the confusion is costing companies time and money, with employees having to go through the procedure twice and some being fined if the allocated time the test needs to be done in has expired, UAE daily Gulf News reported on Sunday.

Typing centres have witness a rise in complaints in the last month, with people demanding their money back after having certificates turned down by the labour ministry, Gulf News said, citing centre employees.

The confusion has led to calls for Dubai Municipality to suspend all applications for testing until the problem is resolved.

Dubai Municipality declined to comment.
