A blaze ripped through two warehouses in the Al Quoz area of Dubai on Friday causing more than $272,000 worth of damage, the latest in a string of fires to hit the industrial estate.

Firefighters battled throughout the day and well into the night to put out the fire, which started in a perfume warehouse around 7.30am, UAE daily The National reported on Sunday.

Adverse weather conditions made things difficult for emergency services and the fire soon spread to a neighbouring warehouse, which also stored perfume.

The blaze was eventually brought under control and finally extinguished around 10.00pm. However, the flammable nature of the products stored in the warehouse meant teams were on standby all night and into Saturday in case the fire flared up again.

Twenty-eight firefighters and 13 pumps from five different stations across Dubai were used in the operation, according to The National.

No injuries were reported.

An investigation is underway to determine the cause of the blaze, but civil defence said poor storing of the products could have been partly to blame.

Meanwhile, in Abu Dhabi a fire gutted fire furniture shops in the old seaport area on Saturday. Civil defence said nobody was injured.
