English football giant Manchester United has confirmed a five-year sponsorship deal with Saudi Telecom Co, the Middle East’s largest operator.

The reigning Premiership and European champions said on Monday that Saudi Telecom will have exclusive rights to use the club’s logo and imagery in its marketing within Saudi Arabia.

The statement by Manchester United described the agreement as a “record deal”, without saying how much Saudi Telecom paid for the rights.

Muhammad Al-Jasser, chairman of Saudi Telecom, said in the statement the company will be working closely with a specialist marketing team from Manchester United "to develop innovative ideas to support the partnership".

The UK’s Sunday Times reported on Sunday that the deal was in excess of 10 million pounds ($18.7 million), describing it as one of the biggest non-shirt sponsorship deals in British history.

Under the agreement, Saudi Telecom will be able to offer subscribers content such as video clips, news and other content.

The deal follows Manchester United's four-day trip to the kingdom earlier this year, for which the team was paid an estimated 1 million pounds.

The team provided the opposition for Saudi legend Sami Al Jaber's testimonial game and faced off against Al Hilal in front of 65,000 fans in the King Fahd Stadium.
