The Indonesian embassy in Doha has received 309 complaints so far this year regarding maltreatment, abuse and non-payment of wages.
Ambassador Rozy Munir said complaints were increasing from the growing Indonesian community which last month numbered more than 27,000.
A vast majority of these work as housemaids or unskilled male workers.
“Some 99 percent of the complaints are from housemaids,” the ambassador told Qatar daily Gulf Times on Tuesday.
He added half of the grievances were related to ill-treatment and exploitation by the sponsor, with five reports of sexual harassment.
Currently, there are 100 Indonesians at the Deportation Centre waiting to fly back home.
The ambassador said the governments of Indonesia and Qatar “signed an agreement on the placement and protection of Indonesian workers in Qatar” on January 20 this year.
