A former Nakheel sales consultant is being quizzed by the Public Prosecutor as the investigation into alleged corruption in Dubai continues.
Former Nakheel executive Karim Masaad is being questioned by the Public Prosecution and being held in Dubai, newswire Zawya Dow Jones reported on Tuesday.
The news follows a report on Friday which said Walid Al-Jaziri, Nakheel’s general manager for sales is being investigated after a criminal case was brought against him in early August.
In a statement emailed to Arabian Business on Tuesday, a spokesperson for Palm developer Nakheel said: "As has previously been advised Nakheel regularly conducts internal audits as part of its commitment to open and transparent corporate governance process."
“As a result of this internal audit process, the company can confirm that a former member of staff is being interviewed by authorities in relation to acceptance of inducements from third parties. No other members of staff are being interviewed and it would be inappropriate to comment further on this issue."
The statement was all Nakheel was prepared to say, considering the on-going police investigation, the spokesperson said.
However, the spokesperson clarified Masaad was a former sales consultant, not an international sales manager as reported.
According to Zawya Dow Jones, Masaad has previously worked as the assistant director of sales at Dubai-based Damac Properties.
A 2001 graduate of Helwan University in Cairo, Masaad also has certifications from US-based Coldwell Banker University.
