Saud Bahwan, founder of Omani conglomerate dies

Omani businessman Sheikh Saud Salim Abdullah Bahwan Al-Mukahini, chairman of the Saud Bahwan Group, died in France on Wednesday, UAE daily Gulf News reported.

His body will be kept at Wattayeh Mosque, the paper added.

A self-made man, Sheikh Saud, began his career at the age of nine, using a wooden Dhow to transport his trading goods to far-off places, the paper said.

The Saud Bahwan Group has 9,400 employees, and annual sales turn over of $3 billion across a range of trading activities including automotives, construction equipment and travel.
