Maritime City plans educational institute

Dubai Maritime City Authority has launched an international academy to increase the pool of qualified professionals within the Middle East shipping sector.
Emirates International Maritime Academy will provide a number of educational programmes from its base in Dubai Maritime City Campus (DMCC), with specialisations in areas such as navigation, engineering, safety and legislation. In addition, the courses will have both theoretical and practical components, which meet International Maritime Organisation (IMO) standards.
“To support the long-term sustainability of the maritime sector, it’s essential to have a talented pool of professionals with worldclass experience,” said Captain Jaafar Sidin, director of Dubai Maritime City Campus.
“Establishing a dedicated marine academy will be a significant step towards ensuring a steady supply of qualified professionals within the Middle East. We have chosen Dubai Maritime City’s educational complex for this project because it provides highly developed educational facilities that meeting the highest international standards. Many universities, institutes and research centres have already expressed an interest in establishing their operations within DMCC,” he added.
