Etihad Airways will launch a new service from Abu Dhabi to the Australian city of Melbourne in March 2009.
The non-stop daily flights will be operated by a 286-seat Airbus A340-600 configured to carry 12 in first class, 30 in business and 244 in economy. Melbourne is the capital city of the state of Victoria and will become the third Australian city to be served by the UAE-based airline.
James Hogan, Etihad Airways’ chief executive officer, said: “Since the successful launch of our services to Sydney and Brisbane, we have been particularly eager to spread our wings and expand our Australian operations even further. I hope that our new Melbourne flights will also prove to be a winner for both commercial and leisure traveller alike.”
Jeremy Bruer, the Australian ambassador to the UAE, said: “This announcement is great news for the UAE and Australia and will, I’m sure, be warmly welcomed by the business community and leisure travellers in both countries.”
