Sharjah Police will introduce a new road system which will only allow school buses on certain roads in a bid to ease traffic congestion.
The new system will start at the beginning of the school year, said a police chief.
“With this new arrangement, we hope parents taking their children in cars will have to reconsider and start using school buses,” Colonel Mohammed Eid Al Madhloom from Sharjah Police told 7 Days on Tuesday.

School Buses Only on Certain Roads
Posted by Gloryb, Sharjah, UAE on Wednesday 27 August 2008 at 11:34 UAE time
If this quote is correct and "school buses will be allowed only on certain roads" how will this enable the pick-up and delivery of students to and from their homes, as they are based all over the city? The better way is to ensure that buses occupy certain lanes in a street, depending on the number of lanes available for use in the street. Currently we find buses, and heavy trucks in all lanes

I've been saying this for the last 6 month to dedicate a Private Lane to Public buses so people might double think of not using their Private cars or at least drive to bus stations and park car there and then use public buses to designated destination and back again to ur car later.
Anyway Sharjah Lake now of extra lanes for this idea and im wondering if they will give away one of the 2 or 3 lanes to the Buses.
Dubai .. im guessing they wont do it because they already spend millions of dirhams for road improvement and not giving the priority to their public transport. RTA mostly focused now on Metro to lower traffic not buses.

As per usual, the intelligent police service makes an announcement that affects thousands, just a few days before it comes into action. No clear details whatsoever or indications, just a vague warning. So come the day, 100s of cars will pile up because the authorities thought it would be a better this way. Whether it Sharjah / Dubai /Abu Dhabi police they all apparantly go to the same place for training - and share the same skills

a seperate lane for public transport buses

Bus-only roads should be for public transport buses which in turn will encourage commuters to use them and ease congestion on the roads.
Why does not Dubai, Sharjah or upcoming Ajman don't introduce a separate lane for public transport buses, instead of just widening the roads.
The advantages:
1) Fast travel from point A to B
2) So, more ppl use the service
3) Less cars on road
4) Less congestion
5) More productivity at work place
6) One can spend more quality time with family
I agree that sales of cars cannot be stopped as it sends wrong signals to the world that development has come to halt in the place.
