Global transport solutions provider Aramex has signed a contract with the Bahraini flag-carrier, Gulf Air, to forge closer links over global incentives agreements to encourage greater volumes of freight traffic.
The Global Incentive Agreement Programme (GIAP) was introduced by the Bahraini airline in 2007 and provides key global partners with incentives to boost traffic volumes, at the same time ensuring that Gulf Air is the core carrier of its partners.
The agreement was signed by Khalid Hassan Abdulla, Gulf Air’s acting head of cargo and Safwan Tannir, Aramex’s chief freight officer.
“Global incentive agreements are a key strategy in building effective partnerships, especially when it comes to the air cargo industry,” announced Abdulla. “As one of the world leaders in logistics and the express delivery industry, Aramex has always been our preferred business partner.”
The deal ensures that both partners have access to permanent direct bookings, specific service-level commitments, service recovery plans and claims processing, plus regular interfacing opportunities between key company executives. Last year, DHL Express, which has an extensive hub in Bahrain, also signed up to the GIAP agreement.
“This partnership further strengthens the regional and global network capabilities of both Gulf Air and Aramex,” said Ebrahim Al Hammadi, Gulf Air Cargo’s sales and marketing manager. “As a partnership commitment, all Aramex shipments will be specially coded with a 'K1' reference within Gulf Air operating systems, alerting all Gulf Air and handling staff of its importance.”
