A new weapon in the war on terror has been commissioned by Dubai customs officials.

Officers at Dubai International Airport have ordered its first mobile laboratory to identify dangerous materials and suspicious objects.

The laboratory aims to ease the process of inspection of goods in various locations and also give officers better access to passengers in the battle to stop people bringing in illegal substances and equipment, reported news agency WAM.

Recently, customs officers in Dubai have arrested a number of people who have tried to carry drugs into Dubai.

In two separate incidents earlier this month, a man from an unnamed African country and another from Asia were stopped at the airport after customs officers became suspicious of their behaviour.

The first was found with 77 capsules contained 1.15kg of heroin, while the other was found with six capsules containing 463.6g of the drug.

Those seizures occurred a week after customs officials caught a man coming from an Asian country with 815.3 grammes of heroin in his stomach. In July officials discovered 98 capsules containing 938 grams of heroin hidden in the stomach of another passenger coming from Asia.
