Emirates denies air rage diversion claim

Emirates has denied that an unscheduled landing of one of its planes was because a violent argument broke out between passengers.

Saudi newspaper Al Iqtisadiyya reported that a dispute between an Emirati family and a newly-wed Saudi couple over which seats they should be sitting in got out of hand and forced the captain to take action.

But Dubai-based Emirates has confirmed that the diverted flight was in order for a passenger to receive medical treatment.

“We can confirm that flight EK052 from Munich to Dubai was diverted to Ankara in Turkey in order to allow two passengers travelling together to disembark, in order for one of them to receive medical treatment,” said a spokesperson for the airline.

An internal investigation is still underway, the airline confirmed.

The paper reported that the Emirates flight had to make an unscheduled landing in Istanbul, where the newly weds disembarked.

They were returning to Saudi Arabia from their honeymoon in Germany, and were planning to stop-off in Dubai.
