Etihad slashes fares for Ramadan travel

Etihad Airways has cut many of its air fares by up to 50 percent for travel during Ramadan and the autumn period.

Ticket prices to popular destinations like London will be slashed by 52 percent to 1,900 dirhams ($517) as part of the special promotion, which runs from September 1 to November 10.

Return economy flights from Abu Dhabi to Bangkok start from 1,293 dirhams ($352), a discount of 37 percent off the usual price, fares to Kuala Lumpur drop 30 percent to 1,851 dirhams ($503) and Cairo prices start at 1,163 dirhams, a discount of 23 percent.

The move by the UAE-based carrier follows the decision by its rival Emirates to reduce its fares following the softening of recent fuel prices.

Geert Boven, Etihad’s executive vice president sales and services, said: “The holy month of Ramadan is a very special time for people living and working in the UAE and the Middle East and Etihad is proud to unveil these great value fares that will provide customers with the opportunity to visit family and friends who live abroad.”

He said the sale period had been extended into November to benefit those who were unable to travel during Ramadan.

Passengers travelling to Africa can fly for reduced fares including 2,130 dirhams ($579) for Johannesburg, a 34 per cent discount on the normal fare, and 1,851 ($503) for Casablanca, a discount of 20 percent.

Within the Middle East region, return economy flights can be booked to Muscat, Bahrain and Doha from 326 dirhams ($88) and Amman and Beirut from 558 dirhams ($151).

Etihad said all prices excluded taxes and that outbound travel would have to be completed by October 10, with the period from October 1 to 3 excluded from the special offer.

Air fares cheap but not tax

Just yesterday i was looking a the cost of flights from Ad to Bhr.
The cost for a return ticket 1 week duration on EY is 1230 dhs including taxes..i was appalled. How can it cost so much to go to bhr from ad ?
Gf flight for the same period of time during ramadhan is 920Dhs including tax.
Bahrain Air again the same duration, dxb to bhr 250dhs including taxes...
Makes me think, who is making money out of its customers even though its Ramadhan & people need to fly home to loved ones as in my case an emergency. Thanks be to God for airlines like Bahrain Air, Air Arabia etc who cater to people with lower level salaries.
