Developers Tatweer last month unveiled the masterplan for The Tiger Woods Dubai, a high-end golf course residential community that includes the first ever course by World champion golfer Tiger Woods.

The 18-hole course will stretch over 1.2 million square metres and be located within the Dubailand development.

Attending a press conference to mark the event in Dubai, Woods said the masterplan would make greater use of the ground than many existing courses do at present.

“Using the ground as an asset is something that the modern game has gone away from. This is a course where you can use the topography to get the ball on the green,” he said.

Almost all holes on the course will feature inlets to the greens, allowing players to use the ground in play, explained Woods.

He indicated that this would be his trademark style for any future courses he designs. In addition to the Dubai course, Woods is also working on a course in Carolina, US.

Woods said the Al Ruwaya course – the name means serenity – will feature dramatic elevation changes, lush landscaping, and water elements.

The course, located within the Dubailand development, is scheduled for completion in 2009.
