Mobile phone operator du said on Sunday that constant upgrades to its network will ensure it has enough capacity to handle the rise in traffic ahead of Ramadan and Eid.
“People calling to greet others creates a huge traffic,” chief executive Osman Sultan said. “During the month you see a little bit of slowdown in the corporate activity and a little bit of a peak in consumer activity.”
The mobile phone carrier is confident it has enough capacity to handle the peak hours before the start of Ramadan and ahead of Eid Al Fitr.
“I think everybody is now starting to feel [the network upgrades] and it’s evidenced by the growth in our subscriber base,” Sultan said.
“There is not one single day since this company saw the light of day that when we haven’t been adding new base stations.
“This is an ongoing task every day and will continue to be so in the coming years.”
du also unveiled a range of offers and activities during Ramadan on Sunday, including free daily Iftar and Suhoor meals in eight locations across the UAE.
“All tents will be open to the public who can simply walk into the air-conditioned tent and enjoy a meal from du which will be neatly and conveniently packed in a box,” the company said in a statement.
“The public also has the option of take-away meals for added convenience.”
Three thousand meals will be given out every day in air conditioned tents across the seven emirates and in Al Ain. An additional 600 meals will be available to take away.
