The cause of the fire at the Atlantis Hotel and Resort on Palm Jumeirah is expected to be known by the end of the week, bosses said on Thursday.
Reports have suggested the fire broke out as a result of workers carrying out welding activities or because of electrical problems.
“I think there’s always speculation around these kinds of situations and we’re leaving that to the experts,” Alan Leibman, president and managing director of Kerzner International said in a radio interview.
“The Dubai police and the CID were excellent. They were on the job right away and they’re carrying out a full investigation. Within the week we’ll get a picture of what’s taken place.”
A large glass sculpture and hand painted murals inside the dome that caught fire on Tuesday are intact and the marine life within the development is unaffected, he added.
In 1994 developer Sol Kerzner launched his Paradise Island resort in Bermuda with a gala featuring Michael Jackson and Elisabeth Taylor.
Liebman declined to comment on rumours that Australian pop star Kylie Minogue will be performing at the Dubai opening on September 24.
“Let me just tell you: in Dubai, as we know, it’s got to be bigger and better,” he said.
