More than 350 air conditioned bus shelters are now available for public use in Dubai. The shelters have been installed in more than 250 locations across the city.

The shelters were installed under a joint initiative between the Road and Transport Authority (RTA), Dubai Electricity and Water Authority (DEWA) and Right Angle Media, the company that funded the US $20 million (AED750 million) project.

Passengers using the shelters can benefit from improved air quality, protection against vehicle emissions and an air temperature of 22oC.

The shelters have also been fitted with recycling bins for glass, plastic and metal. A further 640 shelter sites are in progress as part of the roll-out of the scheme.

The project is one of the largest public-private utility initiatives in the world. It is scheduled to run for over ten years on a design-build-operate-transfer (DBOT) basis by Right Angle Media.
