Mott MacDonald to design Bahrain Al Seef

Ithmaar Development Company has selected Mott MacDonald as the design engineer for a US $190 million (BD70 million) mixed-use tower in the Al-Seef district of Bahrain.
Test piling for the structure will begin in the coming weeks with full-scale construction programmed to start in February.
The tower is due for completion in July 2011.
The UK-based company will provide designs for all civil, structural, mechanical and electrical engineering, including all vertical transportation such as lifts, staircases and escalators.
The 44-storey building will be one of the tallest in the kingdom and Mott MacDonald's project director, Alan Worley, said its design and construction will be fairly straight forward.
"The biggest challenge on this building is that it's got three distinct populations, the bottom part is office use, the middle is residential apartments and the top part is a 4-star hotel," he said.
"That makes design difficult in terms of complying with fire codes but also keeping those populations apart and getting them in and out of the building safely - but it's not insolvable."
