Malaysia keeps tight-lipped

Malaysia Airlines is the latest carrier to slash agent commission in the wake of news that Emirates Airline will move to 0% on October 1.
However, while the other airlines that have or are preparing to follow have been upfront about how they will make the transition to 0% a smooth one for travel agents in this region, the Kuala Lumpur-hubbed carrier has been reluctant to reveal its travel trade strategy.
Despite ATN approaching the carrier on several occasions to ask about its commission policy - the 0% ruling was enforced in the UAE on August 1 - and its plans to help agents through the process, airline officials were permanently "unavailable for comment" leaving us to wonder exactly what Malaysia Airlines had to hide.
In other Malaysian Airlines news, the carrier's engineering and maintenance (E&M) department has come under scrutiny for its work on aircraft owned by Qantas, after several of the Australian flag carrier's aircraft have suffered technical faults over the past couple of months, with one incident leading to an emergency landing.
