Nightmare traffic is not confined to Dubai's roads, importers are complaining that congestion at Jebel Ali port is so bad it can take almost a week just for ships to berth.
The congestion is a particular problem for those importing perishable goods, forcing them to consider using other UAE ports, UAE daily Gulf News reported on Sunday.
The sharp increase in traffic earlier this year is being blamed on the redevelopment of Port Rashid in the city centre.
The port has been closed and is to be transformed into a marine real estate development and terminal for cruise ships.
Importers said the delays were hitting their bottom line as they are not able to raise the cost of goods following a decree by Dubai Municipality not to hike prices during the holy month of Ramadan.
