The UAE on Saturday pledged to continue its fight against terrorism and called for a review of the definition of the phenomenon, state news agency WAM reported.
“The UAE has introduced legislation and conducted educational initiatives to ensure that all possible measures were taken against extremism, including through cooperation with Interpol,” said Anwar Othman Barout Saleem Al-Barout, acting Charge d'Affairs at the UAE Mission at the UN headquarters.
Following a two-day debate, the General Assembly renewed its commitment to strengthen international cooperation to prevent and combat terrorism, but its members have yet to agree on a definition of what terrorism is.
Al-Barout said states should take measures to ensure that they never identify terrorism with a single group of people and they should implement legislative and other measures against hatred-related activities.
Further, the UN must intensify efforts to reverse the conditions that lead to terrorist extremism, he said.
