Orion Congress to explore new hospitality frontiers

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Monday, 08 September 2008

The brave new world faced by the hospitality industry will be on the agenda when the fifth annual Orion Congress is held in Dubai on October 11.

Orion regional manager Middle East and Scandinavia Adam Sargeant said the congress would be suitable for directors of sales and marketing, general managers and HR managers who were interested in preparing their property and business model for the future.

"Orion Hotel Schools is a global alliance of hotel schools, which is a very innovative company - we like to look into the future of the industry to make sure our curriculum is up to standard.

This ensures we are not teaching what happened five years ago but what will be happening in five years time, so our graduates are up to speed and ready to become the managers of tomorrow," he explained.

"We are looking at it in three main segments - what's next in marketing, what's next in operations, and what's next in resourcing. It's all themed on the innovation in the industry."

Sargeant said the congress was likely to attract 300-400 people from the Gulf region and internationally to hear from industry experts and academics, with the keynote speech by Virgin Galactic's SpaceShipOne test pilot Brian Binnie.

"You can talk about underwater hotels, but the next big thing is going to be space tourism when you are looking at the industry as a whole," Sargeant said. "Binnie will give us a first hand account of how it is going to work, and the feasibility of space tourism as an industry."

Participants in the congress will receive a copy of Orion Observatory, featuring white papers from congress speakers and academics and a wrap up of the key findings of the event.
