The UAE football team is facing disciplinary action after fans hurled plastic bottles at match officials and opposition players during the team’s 2-1 loss to North Korea at Mohammed bin Zayed stadium on Saturday.

The shocking behaviour is now being investigated by the UAE Football Association and the Asian Football Confederation is waiting for the referee’s report before deciding what action to take, UAE daily The National reported on Monday.

Police have banned the sale of water bottles at all future international matches in Abu Dhabi and will be stepping up security at Wednesday’s qualifier against neighbour Saudi Arabia to prevent a repeat of the scenes.
