Safety checks at helicopter crash oil rig

Safety checks were being carried out on Monday at the oil rig damaged by a helicopter crash that killed seven people.

Five days after the tragic incident off the coast of Dubai, the Rashid oil field has still not returned to production, Petrofac officials confirmed to Arabian Business.

A spokesman for the company, which operates Dubai government's offshore oilfields, said: "I can confirm production has not recommenced at the Rashid oil field.

"Petrofac are in the process of carrying out a series of checks to bring the rig to an operationally ready status."

Seven people an American, a Briton, a Pakistani, a Filipino, a Venezuelan and two Indians - died in the accident which happened at about 8.20pm on September 3 when a B212 helicopter crashed into the oil rig.

The helicopter crashed onto the deck of the Maersk jack-up drilling rig, before breaking up and falling into the sea.

The cause of the crash has still not been revealed and investigations are continuing.

Dubai's output comes from four main fields including Rashid. The others are Fateh, southwest Fateh and Falah.
