MALL DRAMA: Hoax call sparked a bomb alert at the Sahara Centre in Sharjah.

Sharjah Police have arrested a UAE national who allegedly made a hoax bomb call to a shopping centre forcing its evacuation.

The accused is said to have called the Customer Service Desk of Sahara Centre in Sharjah on Sunday morning, claiming a bomb would explode in the mall within three hours.

Sharjah Police evacuated the centre and employed advance technology to detect explosives but they found none, Khaleej Times reported on Tuesday.

Police say the man told them that he committed the act just to entertain himself as he had no work to do.

He has been referred to the Dubai Public Prosecution on charges of providing false information and causing disturbance to police.

Colonel Abdulla Al Dukhan, Deputy Director of Sharjah Police, has warned residents against issuing such hoax calls to create panic among people.
