Airlines slash fares for illegal workers in Kuwait

A number of Indian-based airlines are providing special fares to Indian in Kuwait who need to take advantage of the Gulf state's amnesty on illegal workers.

Air India, Indian Airlines and Jet Airways are offering the service, according to the Indian embassy in Kuwait.

Kuwait launched a new 45-day amnesty scheme earlier this month, which allowed all illegal foreign residents in the country to either sort out their papers or leave.

The amnesty was launched at the directive of Kuwait's ruler Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to mark the Islamic holy month of Ramadan.

The Indian embassy, which approached the airlines to broker the deal for expats, appealed to Indians in Kuwait without valid visas or residencies, to act before the amnesty deadline of October 15.
