Trend Micro’s long-serving Middle East and North Africa director Justin Doo is preparing to end his association with the company and take on a new management role at Sphere Networks, a Dubai-based network management software developer.
Doo is set to leave his current position at the beginning of next month after nine years with the antivirus software vendor. He has served as regional boss for the last six and a half of those, establishing the operation and growing the company’s Middle East market share. Trend now employs more than twenty people across its offices in the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Turkey.
Middle East distributors were informed of Doo’s intentions earlier this week and he will remain with the vendor until early October as it begins the task of finding a replacement. “It’s an amicable change,” explained Doo. “I have taken the lead as far as I can with what I’m doing and thoroughly enjoyed it — but I am looking for new challenges.”
Doo’s next role will be as VP sales and marketing at Sphere, which was launched three years ago and is backed by Dubai Silicon Oasis. He will work closely with CEO and founder Mohamed Hamedi to aggressively drive the business forward.
“We want to demonstrate that this is technology that was developed, incubated and grown in the UAE with a view to taking it out on a global basis and creating a big presence,” revealed Doo.
“The original plan and our commitment is to build a scaleable and sustainable business from a revenue perspective in the Middle East. Our primary targets will obviously be the UAE, Saudi Arabia and Kuwait as they are the three biggest revenue opportunities by economy. From there we will pan out in other GCC countries, but it will take time because Sphere is still a very young company,” he added.
Doo’s experience of building and developing channels in the region looks likely to prove invaluable as Sphere prepares to establish a solid channel structure in the Middle East and eventually in other territories. It is keen to forge relationships with service providers as well as traditional go-to-market partners with implementation, consultancy and managed services skills.
