Ten environmentally-friendly hybrid cars will take to Dubai’s roads next month to begin transporting passengers as part of trials conducted by the Dubai Taxi Agency.
The Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) said on Saturday the Toyota Camry hybrid sedans, which provide reduced vehicle emissions, have been undergoing testing since mid August following an agreement with Al-Futtaim Motors (AFM).
“The Dubai Taxi Agency engineers are pleased with the initial results so far and anticipated that the public would receive the Camry hybrid sedans as a welcome addition to the taxi fleet, and we welcome any hybrid vehicle suppliers to collaborate with us for taxi trials." said Abdul Aziz Malik, chief executive of Dubai Taxi Agency.
“With reduced emissions we can take a step closer to prevent our air from being polluted and hence ensure a future that is safer for the whole society."
Tony Barlow senior, general manager of sales at AFM, added: “We are extremely pleased to be partnering with the RTA on the very important mission of protecting our environment for the future.
"We have the full support of the Toyota Motor Corporation in Japan for the trial of these technologically advanced vehicles, and we anticipate a successful outcome.”
