Dubai Investments Park (DIP) has launched a traffic safety campaign in a bid to stop the increase in the number of crashes in Dubai during Ramadan.

Under the banner “Drive slow while people fast”, DIP officials aim to keep drivers reminded of the principles of safe driving and being alert to traffic rules during the holy month.

In cooperation with Dubai Police and RTA, DIP is placing its security personnel at the park’s entrances and exits a few hours before Maghreb prayer to distribute dates, yoghurt and awareness flyers to drivers going to and from the park.

The campaign also includes lectures about safe driving for companies, especially for truck drivers, who are responsible for many of the accidents that occur in DIP.

DIP’s chief operating officer, Saeed Bugarah, said: “The main purpose for this campaign is to increase awareness of road hazards and to stress the need for compliance with traffic rules to avoid accidents, which often lead to human losses and damage to property.

"That’s why we were keen to have Dubai Police and the Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) taking part in this campaign.”

He added: “We hope it (the campaign) will be a catalyst for companies working inside and outside DIP to carry on with safety awareness exercises for their drivers, and to play an active role in reducing traffic accidents and their consequences."

Officials said that while the immediate purpose of the campaign was to ensure that DIP employee reached home safely to enjoy Iftar, the long-term purpose was to reduce the number and severity of collisions that take place inside the park.
