Pay as you park system set for Abu Dhabi

A pay as you park system is set to be introduced in Abu Dhabi, officials have announced.

The Municipal Affairs Department in the UAE capital has submitted its report on a paid car parking system to the emirate’s Executive Council for approval and implementation.

Officials have already signed a contract with a company for installing and operating the new car parking machines, Engineer Jumaa Mubarak Al Junaibi, director general of Abu Dhabi Municipality told Khaleej Times on Tuesday.

The system will be phased in and the paid car parking machines would be initially installed in specific areas, including Tourist Club, Al Khalidiya, Madinat Zayed, Airport Road and Al Muroor Road.

The charges will vary according to the locations, but the normal charges have been fixed at 1 dirham per hour, Al Junaibi told the paper.
