GE delivering ecomagination

by ArabianBusiness.com staff writer  on Wednesday, 17 September 2008
Mohammed Ayoub, general manager, GE Oil and Gas Middle East.

GE Oil and Gas has a long history in Saudi Arabia, supplying the country, and in particular the major national company Saudi Aramco, with its latest products and services.

It provides complete solutions for production, LNG, transportation, storage, refineries, petrochemical and distribution systems, as well as pipeline integrity solutions including analysis and pipeline asset management.

The company has been dealing with Aramco for some 50 to 60 years - its biggest client in the oil and gas sector.

"We currently supply Aramco with equipment and services, helping then in the entire operations from upstream, transportation, to petrochemical and refining processes, including pipeline integrity and inspection," says Mohammed Ayoub, general manger, GE Oil and Gas Middle East.

"What we are seeing in the Middle East and in Saudi Arabia is that the projects are much more integrated throughout the value chain than ever before. From the wellhead though to tankers, receiving terminals and refineries, so the new wave of developments is incorporating a much wider spectrum of activities," explains Ayoub.

GE Oil and Gas have recently opened a new office in Saudi Arabia in June this year, with 20 staff both on the commercial and technical side. There are plans afoot to continue expanding the company in the region, and to look at the possibility of building new manufacturing facilities and service centres, "which will be able to handle the entire range of oil and gas compressors and heavy duty machines," says Ayoub.

One of the main challenges in working in the country for GE Oil and Gas is sourcing and retaining the right talent, a problem faced across the industry in the region.
