Bahrain’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authoriry has initiated an auction to award the Kingdom’s third mobile licence.
The auction will involve a multi-stage qualification process and a final financial round for suitable bidders.
The third mobile operator will fuel further competition in the market, where currently Batelco and Zain reign.
Bahrain’s TRA has announced that the final deadline for bids is 13 November at no later than 3pm. Names of bidders who pass the pre-qualification round will be announced on 18 November, along with a date for initiating financial offers from those bidders.
To keep the entire process transparent, tender documents containing all the pre-qualification requirements and technical criteria are available for download on the TRA website.
“TRA expects the winning bidder to be an experienced international player capable of offering innovative and affordable mobile services, to strengthen competition in Bahrain and deliver tangible socio-economic benefits to the Kingdom,” commented Alan Horne, TRA’s general director.
