Advanced Composites (AC) has won a US $15.7 million (AED58 million) contract to supply and install the district cooling pipe network at Nakheel’s Palm Jebel Ali Crescent A development. Over 20km of glass reinforced piping (GRP) will be supplied by the firm.
The pipework will vary in diameter from 50-800mm and the firm will also provide valves as part of the contract. All of the products will be manufactured at the AC facility in Sharjah.
AC general manager Dr Raed Al Zubi explained the challenges being faced on the project: “It is critical to understand the client’s needs and expectations and to work swiftly in order to align with the project’s overall construction timeline. So it is important for us to plan well and communicate effectively with the main contractor to ensure that we execute well.” The main contractor on the project is Al Rajhi Construction.
GRP systems are designed to be corrosion resistant and as a result reduce maintenance costs.
