PRICES STABLE: The DPE said consumers could look forward to stable prices for basic foods during the rest of Ramadan. (Getty Images)
The price of basic foods should remain stable during the remainder of Ramadan, the Abu Dhabi Department of Planning and Economy (DPE) said on Saturday.
The DPE said its price index released on the third week of the holy month showed a slight fluctuation in the prices of vegetable, fruits and other basic food, but attributed it to the increased demand and not the result of price hikes, UAE state news agency WAM reported.
The DPE said "the market is effectively monitored to ensure prices are not hiked. As a result the prices for essential foodstuff remain stable and will continue to be so through out Ramadan", according to WAM.
