Beyond the boardroom

Egypt is utilising its dramatic scenery and abundance of historical landmarks to create unique meeting venues.

Breakout from the old routines and hold your next event somewhere more adventurous, says Selina Denman.

It's an age-old, much-abused adage: location, location, location. But meeting planners aiming to impress cannot underestimate the importance of their chosen venue.

With world-class convention centres and über-sophisticated hotel facilities becoming the norm across the Middle East, finding a venue that truly stands out is more vital than ever.

Smooth sailing

Planners seeking an alternative to Dubai's polished hotel product - but not wanting to lose out on luxury - may want to head out to sea. Dubai Marina Yacht Club can cater to corporate groups onboard its new Athena Dubai, a 13m motor yacht with space for 10 guests.

"With its large air-conditioned interior space, Athena Dubai is perfectly set up for intimate meetings, presentations and events; it is an ideal venue for closing a deal or rewarding staff by offering a canapé cruise around Dubai," says Steve Stiglbauer, general manager of Dubai Marina Yacht Club.

Onboard facilities include a high-quality CD stereo, with internal and external speakers, a VHS stereo video and a DVD stereo video. Power sources of both 240v and 12v mean that most presentation equipment can be easily connected.

"All cruises on Athena Dubai are customised to the needs of the client, so meeting tables can be arranged, incorporating the built-in audiovisual system. Customised itineraries can be created to suit the enjoyment of all, from a short tour of the Dubai Marina canal and the properties either side, to a trip taking in the stunning Dubai skyline."

Hosting an event out to sea also guarantees the undivided attention of attendees, Stiglbauer points out.

"Entertaining guests on a yacht creates a complete catchment for their attention, so in terms of an exclusive product launch, contract signing or upper management rendezvous, the presenter will have all the guests' complete attention."
