UNITED LAUNCH: US carrier is set to start a daily service from Washington to Dubai on October 26.

United Airlines is to start a daily non-stop service between Washington DC and Dubai on October 26.

The airline will become only the second US carrier to fly directly to the UAE and the Dubai route will be United’s only new destination this year, as US airlines struggle to recover from the credit crisis, slumping economic growth and high fuel prices.

United, the fourth largest airline in the world which carried 68.3 million passengers last year, will fly seven times a week using a Boeing 777-200 ER between Washington Dulles International Airport and Dubai International, reported UAE daily The National.

In addition to first, business and economy classes, United offers an “Economy Plus” service offering five additional inches of legroom over standard economy.

Flights from Dubai depart at 11:30pm each evening and arrive the following morning after a 15 hour, 14 minute journey. The flight east to Dubai is 12 hours and 48 minutes long.

United’s foray into the UAE follows Delta Air Lines, which began flying five times a week from Atlanta, Georgia to Dubai in May 2007.
