Five people have died and six others injured, including two children, after a 4x4 fell down a ravine in Oman.
According to eyewitnesses, the 4x4 flipped over a cement barricade and fell around 20 feet down the ravine after veering to avoid an oncoming vehicle, the Times of Oman daily reported on Sunday.
"The vehicle was just reaching the last turn before the checkpoint when the accident took place. The vehicle fell over and was damaged on all sides," an eyewitness was quoted as saying.
The accident, which happened on Friday near Jabal Al Akhdar, was reportedly the result of a brake failure.
All of the victims were Indian nationals. Those killed in the accident have been identified as Sreenivas Narayanan, Vijay K. Subramanyan, Sukanya Amarnath, Jayalakshmi Radhakrishnan and Priya Ramesh.
All the injured were taken to Nizwa Referral Hospital.
